  • Heat oven to 350°F.
  • Place apples in large bowl. Add granulated sugar, tapioca and 1 tsp. apple pie spice; mix lightly. Let stand 15 min.
  • Meanwhile, combine flour, brown sugar, butter, nuts and remaining apple pie spice in separate bowl. Press 2/3 of the flour mixture onto bottom and halfway up side of 10-inch springform pan. Bake 10 min. or until lightly browned. Cool slightly.
  • Fill crust with apple mixture. (Apple mixture will need to be mounded in center in order to fit in crust.) Gently press down center of apple mixture to make as level as possible; sprinkle with remaining flour mixture. Place on rimmed baking sheet.
  • Bake 1 hour 10 min. or until top is golden brown and apple mixture is hot and bubbly. Cool 20 min. Run knife around rim of pan to loosen cake; remove rim. Serve cake warm or cooled.

If you don't have a 10-inch springform pan, line a 9-inch square baking pan with heavy-duty foil. Prepare, bake and cool cake as directed. Use foil handles to lift cake from pan before cutting to serve.


Substitute ground cinnamon for the apple pie spice.
