  • Score steak on both sides with shallow cross-cuts; place in shallow dish.
  • Mix remaining ingredients; pour over steak. Turn to evenly coat both sides of steak. Refrigerate 2 hours to marinate.
  • Heat grill to medium-high heat. Remove steak from marinade, discard marinade. Grill steak 8 to 10 min. on each side or until done. Let stand 5 min. before cutting across the grain into thin slices.

Serving Suggestion

Serve with hot cooked rice, grilled potatoes or grilled vegetables and a mixed green salad.


Substitute 1 tsp. minced gingerroot for the ground ginger.

How to Cook Flank Steak

Flank steak and skirt steak can be tough, but, when properly prepared, they can be tender and delicious. Tenderize the meat first by marinating it. Then, grill, broil or pan-fry it whole until medium doneness (160ºF).

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This recipe was awesome. This recipe was awesome. My boyfriend does not like onions, so I omitted the green onions from the recipe. I used a different kind of BBQ Sauce. Also I was confused whether the recipe wanted sesame seeds .. or sesame seed oil>>>> I used the oil but cut the amount in half. Then added just a touch of cayenne pepper. IT WAS AWESOME!!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This recipe was a hit with my family! This recipe was a hit with my family! We used the marinade with smaller steaks instead of a flank steak. I served it with some plain white rice and steamed veggies. This was the first time my son ate steak without having to slather it with steak sauce. :) Looking forward to making this again.

I even broiled it on high heat for 6-7 minutes each side for medium to medium well texture and it tasted just as good. Make sure to have extra marinade set aside for dipping. I will definately make this again!!!
