Rated 5 out of 5 by from I have literally made this dish 50 times. I have literally made this dish 50 times. I always add extra sour c.r.e.a.m so that it's rich and creamy instead of dry. I tried milk, but it wasn't as good. Extra sour c.r.e.a.m will do the trick! I also reduce the cayenne pepper to 1/8th a teaspoon, otherwise it's like, "would you like some mac and cheese with that cayenne pepper?" :) A couple other tips- I sometimes mix in some frozen peas with this. You can barely taste them in it, so why not get the good nutrients out of the deal? Make sure you add plenty of cheese- you can add all kinds of cheeses in with the cheddar for different flavor profiles. Also double the R.i.t.z crackers on top. Just trust me. ;)

I also sauteed 1/2 green pepper and 1 small yellow onion both diced until tender, then 4 cloves minced garlic for an additional 3 minutes. I seasoned the vegetables with red pepper flakes, paprika, oregano, salt and pepper (to my liking). Then I added 6 oz. turkey pepperoni and 1 cup freshly grated mozzarella. I also coated panko bread crumbs with butter and seasoned with Mrs. Dash Italian seasoning. Then I added it all together and topped off with an dry Italian seasoning packet. Great twist on comfort food.

I generally use ******* rather than the cayenne -- and make it even more delightful by adding a good sized chunk of ***** cheese along with the sour ***** and extra cheese. And also, MORE cheese, usually Kraft Triple Cheddar. :D No one ever realizes it's out of a box. :) Oh, and if it comes out dry, you're doing something wrong! Do NOT skimp on the cheese or sour *****, do NOT overbake! Maybe your dish is too large?

Rated 5 out of 5 by from this dish is so yummy! this dish is so yummy! I made it with lots of sharp cheddar, more sour cream than the recipe says, turkey bacon, and a little milk. My husband compared the taste to cheese fries and suggested i add jalepenos next time. it reheats perfectly and tastes great as a leftover. my only complaint is the fat and calories! this is definitely a "once in a while" dish. i'll try all reduced fat ingredients next time.

My elderly father broke a tooth from his bridgework about two months ago while eating my "old" baked mac 'n cheese. After making this rendition of one of our favourite casserole dishes, my son and husband raved over it. When I asked my poor ol' dad what he thought of it, he asked me why I didn't make my regular crunchy (over heated) recipe. The rest of us shared a hearty belly laugh over that comment.
