  • Preheat oven to 400°F. Brown meat, onion, peppers and garlic in large skillet on medium-high heat; drain. Cover to keep warm.
  • Mix tomato sauce, steak sauce and Italian seasoning in small saucepan. Bring to boil on medium-high heat, stirring occasionally. Reduce heat to low; simmer 5 minutes or until slightly thickened. Remove 1 cup of the tomato sauce mixture; stir into the meat mixture. Set remaining tomato sauce mixture aside.
  • Unroll pizza dough; divide into 8 equal pieces. Roll out each piece on lightly floured surface to 6-inch square. Spoon 1/3 cup of the meat mixture onto the center of each dough square; top with 1/4 cup of the cheese. Fold over dough to form triangles. Press edges of dough together, then press with tines of fork to seal tightly. Place on lightly greased baking sheets.
  • Bake 20 minutes or until golden brown. Serve with the remaining tomato sauce mixture.

Substitute

Substitute ground turkey, for the ground beef.

I adjusted the recipe -- thought the steak sauce would be too overpowering -- used just italian style tomato sauce - and added just enough to make it "like thick spagetti sauce" -- used bread dough and did half moons -- rolled out a circle and put the hamburg/sauce/cheese on one side and folded over - worked great - and was very filling - made different sized circles for different sized appetites

Rated 4 out of 5 by from My family ate this and loved it! My family ate this and loved it! I didn't think that it needed the dipping sauce, as the meat inside the calzone had plenty of flavor along with the cheese. I think that you could use the small can of tomoato sauce and 1/4 cup or less of the steak sauce for the inside and not have to have the dipping sauce. This was really good!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from It was really good. It was really good. Finally a new recipe that my entire family liked. Even my "chicken only" five year old loved it and my daughter who is nine declared it was her new favorite dinner. Also will try with ground chicken pepers onions etc with fajita seasonings and jack cheese. Have a nice day.

This tastes great as a VEGETARIAN recipie by using 1/2 a pound of BOCA Original Burgers and the other half BOCA Italian Sausages ((hold the onion & garlic since the sausages have enough!)) Then use Pilsbury Pizza dough and I assure it'll be a household favorite!!!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from i was not a very tasty recipe at all. i was not a very tasty recipe at all. None of my family enjoyed it. It was the steak sauce I believe that made this recipe horrible. My husband suggested making it with taco meat, so I will try that next time.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from My family loved these calzones. My family loved these calzones. It was something different to do with beef besides sloppy joe and tacos. It was very easy to make although the pizza dough did not cooperate. It was a winner in my house.
