Cooking Know-How

Taking the lid off your slow cooker, even just to give it a stir, drastically reduces the heat and extends the cooking time. Only lift the lid if instructed to do so in the recipe.

Make Ahead

Fill the slow cooker's removable stoneware container with the recipe ingredients as directed. Store in the refrigerator until ready to start the slow cooker.

Cooking Know-How

The slow cooker does not brown meat. If you prefer the look and taste of browned meat, quickly stir-fry it before adding it to the slow cooker.

Ratings & Reviews

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Complete distaster I should have known better; it was too easy, it was too simple, it was deceptive. I questioned the 'uncooked rice', I questioned the amount 6 people to consume 4 cups of cooked rice. I pushed ahead. After 5 hours on high we were dying to dig in ... I added the rice. 20 minutes later I had raw rice. 40 minutes later I had take out and a dried out dish and RAW rice. I added liquid, eventually a quart of Beef stock. After 2 additional hours on high and 30 minutes on low the rice was cooked. It looks like the dogs dinner and I have quarts of it. All the delicious flavor is gone ... just gone. If I had just thrown the ingredients in the trash I would be less annoyed and frustrated
