I made the mistake of taking this to work for lunch the first time I made it. Now I get requests for this ALL the time! Today's version was made with smoked pork neckbones. I find they add a richer, smokier flavor. Also, I substituted green beans for the zucchini as I don't care for zucchini in soup. I always cook my macaroni separately and add before serving otherwise the pasta absorbs all the broth. When I'm ready to eat it I put a little goat cheese on top and have some crusty french or italian bread. A very hearty, filling, delicious meal!
I followed the recipe and it was very good, but I would add more broth next time. By the time it's done, it comes out more stew like.
Excellent...I omitted the ham but added flavor by sauteeing the vegetables (including two cloves of garlic also) first in Kraft Tuscan house italian dressing. Didn't have cayenne so used from crushed red pepper and some black pepper. My husband said this didn't look like a soup he'd like but he really liked it.
