Now I get requests for this ALL the time! Today's version was made with smoked pork neckbones. I find they add a richer, smokier flavor. Also, I substituted green beans for the zucchini as I don't care for zucchini in soup. I always cook my macaroni separately and add before serving otherwise the pasta absorbs all the broth. When I'm ready to eat it I put a little goat cheese on top and have some crusty french or italian bread. A very hearty, filling, delicious meal!

Excellent...I omitted the ham but added flavor by sauteeing the vegetables (including two cloves of garlic also) first in Kraft Tuscan house italian dressing. Didn't have cayenne so used from crushed red pepper and some black pepper. My husband said this didn't look like a soup he'd like but he really liked it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome soup - even better the next day. Awesome soup - even better the next day. A little on the spicy side though so I might tone down the cayenne pepper. I substituted whole grain mac & cheese and 1/2 a box of frozen spinach for the fresh. It still turned out great. It was also very delicious when you add a sprinkling of bacon crumbles on top!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from This was a little spicy for my family. This was a little spicy for my family. I will cut the red pepper down to 1/4 tsp. next time. I also think it could use some garlic. You could easily leave out the ham for a meatless version. I also think it would taste great with sausage. We will definitely be making this again.
