  • Bring beans and 1 qt. (4 cups) of the water to boil in large saucepan. Boil 5 minutes. Remove from heat; let stand 1-1/2 hours. Drain well.
  • Return beans to saucepan. Add onions, bacon, garlic and remaining 1-1/2 qt. (6 cups) water. Bring to boil on medium-high heat. Reduce heat to medium-low; simmer, partially covered, 1 hour. Skim off any foam.
  • Stir in oregano and salt. Continue cooking an additional 15 to 20 minutes or until beans are tender.

Special Extra

Serve beans over hot cooked rice topped with your favorite KRAFT Shredded Cheese and/or BREAKSTONE'S or KNUDSEN Sour Cream.

Creative Leftovers

Don't throw out the water when you drain the cooked beans! The nutrient-rich broth can be used when making soups or for cooking rice.

    Creo que esta receta quedaria buena, es diferente a como yo los hago. Yo los pongo a ablandar en una Crock-Pot, les hecho una cebolla pequena entera y una hoja de laurel, cuando estan blandos, le hago un sofrito con aceite de oliva, cebolla, ajos y pimientos verdes, le agrego oregano,comino y sal. Cuando estan espesitos apago el fuego y le hecho un poco de aceite de oliva y vinagre.
