Make It

Tap or click steps to mark as complete

  • Place 4 of the bread slices on bottom of greased 8-inch square baking dish; top with bacon, mushrooms, onions and cheese. Cover with remaining 4 bread slices.
  • Beat eggs and milk with wire whisk until well blended; pour over bread; cover. Refrigerate at least 1 hour or overnight.
  • Bake, uncovered, in preheated 350°F-oven for 1 hour or until center is set. Let stand 10 minutes before cutting to serve.

Substitute

Prepare as directed, using KRAFT 2% Milk Shredded Reduced Fat Cheddar Cheese and fat-free milk.

Shortcut

When a recipe calls for crumbled cooked bacon, make the task easier by snipping the raw bacon into 1/2-inch pieces right into the skillet with clean kitchen scissors. The bacon cooks faster and is already crumbled!

Since it's made in advance, it's nearly as handy for busy days as a crock-pot. We especially like how versatile it is - different meats or no meat at all (*very* good when we have vegetarian friends over), different cheeses, different vegetables, different breads ... a nearly unlimited range of options for it. For those who don't like the "baked sliced bread" taste, I recommend letting it sit for at least 4 hours.

I think he was skeptical since his mom never made them. Anyway, we had overnight company so I made it the night before, kept it in the fridge and it was VERY good when baked the next morning. My husband and his friend had seconds. I did substitute a spicy sausage for the bacon to make it a little heartier.

My husband and I decided to host a small (stress on the word small) family breakfast for Christmas. Our expected 5 people blew up into 19! I tripled this recipe and made it along with the Garden Vegtable Strata (For our veggitarians). It was extremely easy and delicious. My family is still asking for the recipe. Thank You Kraft Foods For Saving My Sanity.

This recipe is great however instead of using the short cut of cutting up the bacon before frying, why not use the already cooked and crumbled Oscar Meyer bacon found in the salad section of the grovery store? I find this the easiest way to cook when a recipe calls for crumbled type bacon, no muss no fuss and the results are great!

I substituted cooked hash browns (shredded potatoes) for the initial layer of bread that were seasoned ever so slightly with powdered chicken bouillion. The dish turned out fabulous! Will definitely be making it again. The fact that I can make it the night before and refrigerate til morning is also a plus!

I doubled the recipe and put it in a 9 1/2 x 13 1/2. I cubed the bread, added extra green onions, minced garlic, salt and pepper. I used 2 extra eggs (after doubling). I let it sit overnight before baking. It was great!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from I made this recipe with a lot less calories! I made this recipe with a lot less calories! Instead of white bread, I used whole weight bread. Then I used fat free cheese and turkey bacon. I also added onions and peppers and took out the mushrooms. There are a lot of options with this casserole and my coworkers really enjoyed it!
