This is an excellent cake-especially if your 4 year old enjoys the idea of Pirates so much, he chose to dress-up as his costume for Halloween. This will give him a thrill for his birthday party too. I missed that you had highlighted the pattern in the instructions. When I went back and reread the recipe I found the hint and went to the pattern. Well done Kraft Kitchens! Even an amateur can follow these directions. I think the 'eye patch' should be edible-perhaps a full sized Oreo or a piece of a full-sized Tootsie Roll rolled out and cut to shape (eat and enjoy what you don't use on the cake).

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I used chocolate and vanilla frosting in place of the cool whip and pudding. I used chocolate and vanilla frosting in place of the cool whip and pudding. I also used black decorating icing to make the eyepatch, and the kids wanted a smile instead of a frown. The design is great and everyone liked the "pirate cake". (I'm sure cool whip and pudding would be good too, but my kids love frosting!)
