Caramel Apple Sundaes

Ice cream sundaes: They're not just for summer! Not when the ice cream is covered in a sweet, warm apple mixture and topped with caramel.

What You Need

Tbsp.  butter or margarine
Tbsp.  brown sugar
medium  cooking apples, peeled, cored and thinly sliced (about 2 cups)
pt.  (3 cups) vanilla ice cream
Tbsp.  caramel ice cream topping
 gingersnaps, coarsely broken

Make It

MELT butter in large skillet on medium heat. Stir in brown sugar. Add apples; toss to coat. Cook 4 to 5 minutes or until apples are tender, stirring frequently.

SCOOP ice cream evenly into 6 dessert dishes; cover evenly with the warm apple mixture. Top each sundae with 1 Tbsp. of the topping and about 2 Tbsp. of the gingersnap pieces.

SERVE immediately.

Look for apples that are firm and well colored with smooth, blemish-free skins. Choose the variety that best suits your needs. All-purpose apples, such as Cortland, Granny Smith, Jonathan, Fuji, Gravenstein, Empire, Jonagold, McIntosh, Pippin, Northern Spy, Winesap, are suitable for both cooking and snacking.
