  • Heat oven to 350°F.
  • Line 13x9-inch pan with foil, with ends of foil extending over sides; spray with cooking spray. Combine sugar, butter, eggs, vanilla, nuts and chocolate in large bowl. Mix flour, baking powder and salt. Add to sugar mixture; mix well. Reserve 1 cup batter for later use; spread remaining batter onto bottom of prepared pan.
  • Bake 15 min. or until firm. Microwave caramels and milk in microwaveable bowl on HIGH 2 to 2-1/2 min. or until caramels are completely melted, stirring after each minute. Pour over baked layer in pan; spread to within 1/2 inch of edges.
  • Spoon reserved batter over caramel layer; swirl gently with knife. Bake 15 to 18 min. or until center is set. Cool completely. Use foil handles to remove dessert from pan before cutting into bars to serve.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from I didn't care much for these. I didn't care much for these. They got hard after a few hours. I guess from the caramel. I also think you don't need to use as much caramel as the recipe calls for. The batter was thick so it was also hard to spread. It tasted ok but I think I will find something a little better to make with my time. Box brownies would have been better then these.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from I found this recipe a little difficult. I found this recipe a little difficult. When i reserved the cup for the top, it seemed there wasn't enough for the bottom. It was hard to spread on the foil. It was impossible to spread the top over the caramel. It took longer to bake and wouldn't set right. And yes, it called for waaaaaay to much caramel. I used half and was really too much.

The recipe was easy enough, but the dessert was way too sweet (too much carmel- I even held back some!!) and ended up looking nothing like the picture. Not worth the time nor the ingredients.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great right out of the oven. Great right out of the oven. Difficult to spread batter into pan with the tin foil on. Next time I will try without it. Made it for a neighborhood birthday party and came home with NO LEFT OVERS! Everyone loved them. Just a little messy kitchen work ^_^

It was tedious unwrapping all those caramels, and I too think the recipe could use less. The caramel was oozing out. They were a hit with all and would consider making again with less caramel and someone else to help unwrap all those little guys!

To much work, dough didn't spread well on foil, caramel and top layer of dough didn't swirl very well, ended up mixing into bottom layer and caramel backed onto foil, making it almost implossible to pull foil off! Ended up a big mess!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from This recipe is quite yummy. This recipe is quite yummy. A little bit gooey and prep took me awhile the first time I made them, but boy are they good. Also, make sure to grease both the bottom and sides of the foil or your edges will probably stick (mine did)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from These are fantastic. These are fantastic. I followed the directions exactly (except for using parchment paper to line the pan). They came out very chewy-which I like. My kids said they are better than brownies. I will make these again.
