  • Brown meat in large skillet on medium-high heat; drain.
  • Add water, ketchup and mustard; mix well. Bring to boil.
  • Stir in rice. Sprinkle with cheese; cover. Reduce heat to medium-low; simmer 5 min. Remove from heat. Let stand 5 min. Stir.

Storing Ground Beef

Store ground beef in the coldest part of the refrigerator for up to 2 days. (The refrigerator temperature should be no higher than 40°F.) For longer storage, wrap the meat tightly in foil or freezer-weight plastic wrap and store in the freezer. When thawing, place the meat on the bottom shelf of the refrigerator to prevent any drippings from cross-contaminating other foods.

Keeping it Safe

Be sure to thaw ground beef safely. Keep the meat wrapped and thaw it on the bottom shelf of the refrigerator, not on the counter top.

Serving Suggestion

Garnish with chopped tomatoes and green onions just before serving. Serve with a mixed green salad for added color and texture.

I sauted some diced green pepper, onion and mushroom in olive oil, balsamic vinegar and red wine vinegar. Then I browned the ground beef with the veggies and drained. Also, instead of putting the cheese on during the simmering, After about 3 minutes I gave everything a good stir. I then put on the cheese, probably closer to 1 1/4 cups, and let it sit for more than 5 minutes. It was not the least bit dry. We topped this with sour cream and chipotle salsa.

I first tried this when working as the cook for a 80 kid preschool and it was a big hit. My daughter who was one of the teachers at the school loves it and has me make it regularly at home. For ease when making it for 90-100 people I stir in the cheese so everybody gets some and I make it on the stovetop. It heats up really nice for leftovers too! I also use some tomatoe puree and add onion powder to it for a redder color and use less of the catsup.

I also added onions and minced garlic..I had about a quarter of a package of Velveeta Cheese left in the fridge I wanted to use up too. I added the shredded cheese through out the dish, as well as on top of. This was a hit with the whole family...even my steak and potatoes hubby! He asked for me to make it again this week :)

Quick, easy, and I alwasys have those ingredients on hand...those are the best when I don't have to run out and buy one "special" ingredeient that I'll never use again, especially if my kids won't eat it....and this they will eat....I never have leftovers! Hint: I use velveeta cheese instead....I think it makes it better!

Okay, I read all the reviews and there were more positive than negative so I made the recipe. I added an onion to the meat. It came out bland so I added salt, pepper and a little bit of Tony Chachere's and it came out really good! Next time I will add more garlic salt to the meat. Thanks for another recipe Kraft!

My familiy loves it, and I like the fact that it's fast and easy to make. The amount of time you would spend in a drive through burger place you can fix this dish and have a healthier meal. I did add onions when I was browning the beef. Very good!

Although my husband claims to hate "casserole" type dishes (anything mixed together), I went out on a limb and had a back up dish. I was pleasently surprised by this easy meal. I also added about 1/4 light mayo to make it creamier and used ground turkey instead of the meat.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from My husband and daughter really liked this. My husband and daughter really liked this. I thought it was ok, and my son wouldn't eat it. I ended up putting some seasoned salt, some corn, and I used 2 1/2 cups water in mine so it wasn't so dry. Next time I will put less ketchup, and I love the cheddar cheese soup suggestion. I will have to try that.
