On the onion soup package there is a recipe to make potatoes, so after reading the comments about the flavor being bland, I decided to make the dip and use it in place of the sour cream. I didn't tell my husband (hates cauliflower) that I was making this dish, however he came in the house as it was cooking. His comment was "I'm not eating any of that!" As he was helping himself to seconds he was telling me how very good it was! (the onion soup did give it a good flavor-not too much) I'll definitely make this again-and try adding a bit more cauliflower next time!

At our house we think that this should possibly become not only a dinner time favorite, but also a Thanksgiving tradition. I have made it twice without the cauliflower (because I forgot to buy it at the store) and once with, both were excellent! I did recommend this recipe to my mother and she made it, but only had colby cheese pn hand to put in the recipe. While it was still good it was a little flavorless, so I would recommend that you stick to the sharp cheddar cheese that is called for in the recipe.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from I omitted the cauliflower. I omitted the cauliflower. Neither my husband or I are fans. ANd I thought this lacked flavor. I think it needed seasoning or butter.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from The perks are that this recipe is incredibly easy to make. The perks are that this recipe is incredibly easy to make. The downfall, as previously stated, is that it comes out a bit bland. I added some butter, buttermilk, and milk to make them more creamy. I still had to use quite a bit of salt & pepper for any flavor at all. I also agree that this yields a bit less servings than one would think, so up the # of potatoes you use! However, I'll definitely keep making this/toying with it until it's perfect.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from My whole family loved this dish, even my Dad who is not a big fan of cauliflower. My whole family loved this dish, even my Dad who is not a big fan of cauliflower. I had to double the recipe and I added salt, pepper, onion and garlic powder as well as some butter and milk. I have found that most of the dishes I find on this site are good, but almost all are bland and need to have extra spices added to punch up the flavor. If you just keep that in mind when you make recipe off this site everything will turn out better.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from I made these potatoes for the first time tonight, along with the country salisbury steak. I made these potatoes for the first time tonight, along with the country salisbury steak. I did not use reduced fat sour cream or cheese, I used real sour cream and real shredded sharp cheddar cheese. These were a great side item with the salisbury steak and I agree that they needed a little bit of salt and they had a nice creamy texture. This was a great comfort food meal which will be served again when the weather cools down.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from this was my first time making mashed potatoes. this was my first time making mashed potatoes. it was easy and delicious. i added quite a bit of fresh ground peppercorns and sea salt to add taste. my husband couldn't guess the "secret" ingredient and it drove him nuts. he snooped around until found the evidence, but he never would have guessed it. my only suggestion is to double the recipe. this barely fed 4 of us, two of which are little kids! everyone wanted thirds!
