  • Prepare cake batter and bake as directed on package for 2 (9-inch) round layers, adding dry chocolate pudding mix to the cake mix before mixing with liquid ingredients. Cool cakes in pans 10 min.; invert onto wire racks. Remove pans. Cool cakes completely.
  • Meanwhile, microwave caramels and milk in microwaveable bowl on HIGH 2 min.; stir. Microwave 2 min. or until caramels are completely melted, stirring after each minute. Add dry vanilla pudding mix; whisk 2 min. Cool 15 min. Gently stir in 1-1/2 cups COOL WHIP. Refrigerate 20 min. or until chilled.
  • Cut cakes horizontally in half; stack on plate, spreading 1/3 of the caramel mixture between each layer.
  • Microwave remaining COOL WHIP and chocolate in microwaveable bowl 2 min. or until blended, stirring after each minute. Cool 10 min. Spread over torte, allowing excess glaze to drip down side. Sprinkle with nuts.

Great for taking along to pot lucks or parties. The leftovers had a better texture, so next time I'll leave it in the refrigerator for 24 hours prior to serving. I substituted semi sweet chocolate chips for the Bakers chocolate with no problem, just don't microwave too long. Rated 5 out of 5 by from This cake was fantastic! This cake was fantastic!! No one touched the pecan pie, one slice was missing from the pumpkin pie -- but everyone went for the cake! It didnt seem like the filling was going to come together but it finally worked! I added marshellows to the gnache because the semi sweet chocolate still seemed bitter to me. AND microwaving the cool whip didnt seem as though it would work - doesnt it usually separate and burn? - but it really did work! thanks jello! the cake was a huge hit at my thanksgiving!

The chocolate cake was delicious but unfortunately, the caramel filling wasnt very good. I felt as though it was missing something. It didnt taste caramely / just tasted sweet. Everyone loved it.

Made the cake the night before and put in refrig and made the filling the next morning and put together so quickly. Beautiful presentation too!! A Keeper!
