Make It

  • Heat oven to 350°F.
  • Beat first 4 ingredients in large bowl with mixer until blended. Mix flour and baking soda; gradually add to pudding mixture, beating well after each addition. Shape into ball.
  • Roll out dough on lightly floured surface to 1/4-inch thickness. Cut out dough using 4-inch bear-shaped cookie cutter; place, 2 inches apart, on baking sheets sprayed with cooking spray. Reroll scraps and use to cut additional cookies. Decorate with small candies, raisins or sprinkles for eyes, mouth and buttons, pressing decorations lightly into dough to secure.
  • Bake 12 to 14 min. or until slightly firm. Let stand on baking sheets 2 min.; remove to wire racks. Cool completely.
  • Melt chocolate; spread onto bottom halves of bears for the pants or skirts. Use remaining chocolate to attach remaining decorations. Let stand until chocolate is firm.

Size Wise

Special Extra

Mix 1 tsp. ground cinnamon with the flour and baking soda before mixing with other ingredients as directed.

Note

If dough is too soft to roll out immediately after mixing, refrigerate it up to 1 hour or until of desired firmness.

I did have to make one important modification, though. The dough was too crumbling to roll into a ball, even after refrigeration. Therefore, I added one tablespoon of milk to the dough mixture, and it gave it enough wetness to roll out with ease. Two notes of caution: 1) Make sure the cut-outs are slightly chilled before baking. I did it both ways, and the ones that weren't chilled spread more and distorted the bear shapes a bit. 2) My kids and I decorated these with various candies prior to baking, and we found out that fruit roll-ups and "Nerds" pellets melted and ruined the cookies in the baking process. Mini M&M's, raisins, and sprinkles worked beautifully. The other option would be to decorate minimally prior to baking (such as eyes and mouth), then finish decorating with melted chocolate as glue and other candies, nuts, and marshmellows as the recipe suggested. Since we made these to gi
