Chocolate-Orange Layer Cake

I rated this as Fair, only because my frosting did not come out as thick as the video. I followed the recipe exactly. I even put in the fridge for an hour. Any suggestions?

Very good cake.I cut back on the powdered sugar in the frosting, and it was still sweet enough. The orange zest in the frosting was a nice touch.I used some halloween sprinkles on the bottom rim of the cake to decorate, and a pumpkin on top.It made a great Halloween birthday cake.

I was able to make two sheet cakes from this one recipe. One sold for $10 at our church bake sale.

This was really great!!! I used twice as much orange extract in place of the zest. It was very flavorful! There was way too much icing though!! I ended up only using half of what the recipe made and it was still a tad too much for my taste. I am not much of an icing person though. My family loved it, and my son is requesting it for his birthday. :-)

The cake was easy, but I had a tough time finding 8" pans, I used two 9" instead and just made two layers. It still came out excellent.

Great combination of flavors! I used a devil's food cake mix and it worked fine. The only change I made was I upped the orange flavor in the frosting a lot. After adding the tablespoon of zest, the frosting just tasted like cream cheese to me, so I started to add more and more plus squeezed juice from the orange in there. In the end, I just about used all the zest from the orange and a few squeezes of the juice and the flavor was great to me and everyone who ate it thought so too. The cake wasn't difficult to make but it was time consuming. However, that could be due to the changes I made with the frosting. But I thought it was well worth it.

This recipe turned out great for me. I made the chocolate cake from scratch and let it totally cool before cutting it. A cut cake is really hard to frost so after cutting the 2 layers I put them in the freezer just until hard, and microwaved the icing, about a cup at a time for about 15-20 sec. The layers were then easy to frost and crumb free. Beautiful! I was told it was the best cake they had EVER had. What a hit. Thanks

I will absolutely have to try to make it again as the first try completely flopped! I used 9" cake pans rather than 8" and after I cut them in two, they fell apart, then the icing was too heavy and the layers slid apart. It was a mess but it tasted good so will try again.

This was a simple recipe that is very good. It’s easy to put together and doesn’t take much time. The only thing I changed was the use of orange zest. I used the equivalent in orange extract and I think it turned out ok. I would definitely make it again.
