  • Place steak in freezer 30 minutes to firm. Cut across grain into 2x1/2-inch strips.
  • Mix sour cream and flour in small bowl. Stir in water, bouillon and pepper; set aside.
  • Melt butter in large skillet on medium-high heat. Add 1/2 of the steak; cook and stir until steak is cooked through. Remove steak from skillet. Add remaining steak and vegetables to skillet; cook and stir until steak is cooked through and onion is tender. Return all steak to skillet. Reduce heat to medium.
  • Add sour cream mixture; cook until bubbly, stirring constantly. Cook an additional minute. Spoon over hot noodles.

Substitute

How to Clean Mushrooms

Use a clean, dry or slightly damp towel to gently wipe dirt off mushrooms. Do not rinse mushrooms in water because they will become mushy.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from I marinaded the meat first in Worcestershire and Soy sauce for a 1/2 hour. I marinaded the meat first in Worcestershire and Soy sauce for a 1/2 hour. I also added for extra creamyness and less sour flavor of the sour cream, 3/4 C cream after I added the sour cream mixture and heated throughly. My husband said this was the best he's ever eaten (even better than mom's) and this was my first time making ANY kind of stroganoff, so it was GREAT to eat and a big ego boost for me!

My first try at beef stroganoff so I wasn't sure of this recipe but it turned out delcious!!! A few minor adjustments though. First, I used beef stew meat and cut the pieces into smaller ones and marinated meat with Worcestershire sauce for about half hour. I added ahalf of can of cream of mushroom soup to thicken it up and consistency turned out just right! This is a keeper and easy to make.

I substituted 1 lb lean ground beef for the sirloin because it was readily available, and added about 1/2 cup more water because it was very thick. I've tried other stroganoff recipes and been disappointed in the flavor. This had excellent flavor and was liked by the kids and husband. It was also super simple and fast. It was ready in 45 min.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from The sauce for this was very good. The sauce for this was very good. If I were to make again, I think I would either have the meat department slice the steak really thin for me or try ground beef. I wasn't able to get the steak slices thin enough for what I think it needed to be for this recipe. The sauce was wonderful, though. I served over no yolk noodles and that was good.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from This was very easy to make. This was very easy to make. I made the entire recipe in about 40 minutes. With my stoganoff I like a little more zip to it. Next time I will increase the amount of sour cream and decrease the amount of water. The sauce was a little runnier than I like, but I will definately make it again. The leftovers were even good the next day.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Shocked at how good it tasted. Shocked at how good it tasted. My Husband said it tasted better as being a "Left Over" dish. I think the sauce thickens after it sits over night. I cut down on the Noodles to only 2 cups. I think 4 cups would soak in the sauce too much. I've got to admit It was one of the best Beef Recipes i've had in a while.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This was the best stroganoff I think I've ever had. This was the best stroganoff I think I've ever had. Even the kids gobbled it up. I would recommend adding the onions for a few minutes before cooking the second batch of meat. Mine came out a little crunchy because I didn't want to over cook the meat. Other than that it was great. Will make again for sure.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I loved it and so did my family! I loved it and so did my family!! It tastes just like grandma used to make. It is also fairly easy, and takes no time at all. If you don't want to use steak substitute hamburger, I used flank steak and it was wonderful! It is also great as a leftover. I will be making this again and again and again.
