Let me suggest another combination of ingredients...chopped lettuce on the bottom...cooked pasta (small shells)...shelled edamame (right from the freezer bag)...sliced olives...tomato wedges...thin sliced cucumber around the edge of the bowl near the top (very thin slices will stick to the side of the bowl)...sliced hard boiled egg...chopped green onion...cover with Kraft ranch dressing...decorate with kraft grated cheddar cheese and chopped green onion. Cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate. Great for an evening when you arent home to cook or to take to a pot luck party. You could put a layer of ham or tuna in there somewhere; however, I have found peple like it without the meat.

I have been making this salad for years and if my refrigerator space is limited I mix the mayo, sugar and parmesan the night before and put the salad together just before guests arrive. It is great if you can make it ahead though.....there're always some other last items that pop up. I put chopped broccoli or cauliflower(or both) between the lettuce and red onions, have used different kinds of lettuce and I don't use the cheese and tomatoes either. However, I think I'll try it that way next time.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Delicious and easy to make well in advance of dinner. Delicious and easy to make well in advance of dinner. When I made this salad I substituted crumbled blue cheese in place of the parmesan in the mayo and also crumbled some on top. It was fabulous, if you like blue cheese. I used crumbled bacon instead of ham, also substituted baby spinach for half the lettuce for a little more nutritional value. I'd also go with some more peas, it was a short layer in my bowl.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I have seen this salad at our local grocery store and paid $6.99 for it on a regular basis! I have seen this salad at our local grocery store and paid $6.99 for it on a regular basis! I gave it a little of my own twist from this recipe: chopped the onions instead of rings, added a layer of shredded carrot, and for the toppings I used half sour cream to half mayo for a lighter taste & then finished off with a bit of crumbled bacon (instead of using ham inside) Either way... its a crowd pleaser!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I love this salad. I love this salad. I often substitute brown sugar and add chopped green onions, bacon bits, summer squash........I get lots of requests to bring this salad to pot lucks and family gatherings. As far as being messy - I toss everything just before serving & it dissappears so quickly that no one has time to fret about what it looks like! It's wonderful!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This was wonderful. This was wonderful. I doubled the Mayo dressing based on other comments and used Turkey instead of ham and Romaine instead of Ice Berg for the lettuce. I also used blue cheese crumbles instead of parmesan, this may have been a little over kill but the salad was soooo good. Everyone wanted the recipe. Thank You Karft for so many great recipes...

Everyone loved it! It is a totally light and refreshing addition to my summer menu planning. What little was left I packed into a sealed plastic container and sent in my husbands lunch. I will definately make this again!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I have made variations of this recipe for years. I have made variations of this recipe for years. My favorite selection of meat for this salad is cooked chicken slices rather than ham. I also add 3 or 4 hard boiled eggs which have been diced. It's a great tasting salad for a crowd and is best the day served. Any leftovers tend to get a bit soggy.
