Turned out perfect! And delicious. Thickened up nicely. You need to start timing for 12 minutes when mixture comes to a roiling boil. Keep heat at medium the whole time. Will thicken as it cools.
I have had German Chocolate Cake for every Thanksgiving for as long as I have a memory. My Mom always made this and it is my favorite cake of all time. The frosting is wonderful and if someone is having problems getting it thick enough they are undercooking it. I usually cook mine much longer than the 12 mins. stated...but I also double the recipe as we like it frosted on the outside as well and I have never had a problem with it not getting thick enough.
