I did not add the 1/2 cup cold water, instead I put the gelatin mixture into a measuring cup and added enough ice cubes to equal 1 cup. Let the ice cubes melt, removed the ones that didn't and transfered the liquid to a mixing bowl large enough to add the cool whip to. After mixing in the cool whip, I added about 2 cups of the chopped fresh strawberries vs. only using 1 cup. Put that mixture in the fridge for about 45 minutes to set and then spooned into the Oreo pie crust. Then topped with sliced strawberries and put back in the fridge to continue setting over night. Took it to my in-law's house and it was a hit! I will definitely make this pie again and again!
