  • Beat cream cheese, 1/4 cup sugar, vanilla and cinnamon in large bowl with electric mixer on medium speed until well blended. Add eggs, 1 at a time, mixing well after each addition. Gradually add milk, beating until well blended.
  • Arrange bread in greased 13x9-inch baking dish; sprinkle with 1 cup of the cranberries. Pour cream cheese mixture over cranberries. Let stand 15 minutes. Meanwhile, preheat oven to 350°F.
  • Bake 40 to 45 minutes or until golden brown. Meanwhile, bring syrup just to boil in medium saucepan on medium heat. Add remaining 1 cup cranberries and 2 Tbsp. sugar. Reduce heat to low; simmer 10 minutes, stirring occasionally. Cool slightly. Cut casserole into 9 pieces. Serve topped with the cranberry sauce.

Ratings & Reviews

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Made recipe as directed. Made recipe as directed. Doubled it in fact. Could not find frozen cranberries so I rehydrated Cranraisins in warm water. Poured off the water and rinsed. Worked great! Everyone enjoyed and asked for recipe. Top does look brown as in picture. Feared I had burned the toast but was perfect. Did substitute wheat french bread for a more nutrious meal. Try the recipe you will be amazed...dont be afraid of the cranberries. Nice balance of flavors.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from I'm rating this recipe a two. I'm rating this recipe a two. This recipe was good, but was not very much different from regular french toast. So it is a lot of work (and a lot of extra calories) for the same old thing. If you want to try something different; try making just the syrup and using that for your french toast. If you do make the syrup I would suggest making it the night before and leaving it in the refrigerator overnight so the flavors combine more.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Delicious, and you can make it ahead of time! Delicious, and you can make it ahead of time! Easy to make with simple ingredients. I left out two pieces of bread because it seemed like I didn't have room for them, and it came out a bit soggy (next time I will squeeze in all the pieces tightly). Tasted fantastic nonetheless. You can use any kind of berries for this recipe. Leftovers tasted even better the next morning as well!

On fathers day the kids decided to make their dad all his favorite foods and since he likes french toast they choose this recipe. It turned out great, everyone really liked it. They did not have the french bread so they pulled out the bread machine and made a bread to use in this recipe. He was really pleased with all the effort they put into preparing the meal for him.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Very tasty. Very tasty. I used strawberries instead of cranberries. I prepared the night before and then put it in the oven first thing in the morning and made the syrup and eggs while waiting. I ended up cutting more fresh strawberries to go on the side, I think next time I'll leave out the berries while baking. They got a little hard. The bread was firm and the syrup delicious.

Made mothersday, 05/11/08 I used this recipe for the actual french toast, but I used the custard from the Raspberry French Toast with Custard Sauce recipe instead of the cranberry maple sauce. It was amaxing! Everyone loved it! Good with extra cream cheese, and chunky mix instead of well blended and smooth

Rated 3 out of 5 by from This was a nice change. This was a nice change. However, the instructions seem to be lacking. You'll have to "stack" the bread slices in the dish, making the bottom layer really soggy. Mid-baking, I flipped the layers so they all had a chance to firm up. The cranberries were a wonderful contrast to the sweetness of the toast.
