I dress up my stove top dressing in a very similiar way, only I prepare the stuffing as directed but cut back on the liquid By 1/2 cup (I use chicken broth instead of water), then while the stuffing is simmering I saute onion, celery, cranberries and walnuts in melted butter with a little olive oil to keep it from burning. Then to the sauteed mixture I add poultry seasoning a little extra sage and onion powder. then when the stuffing is finished I stir in the sauteed ingredients. No one even knows it's stove top dressing, and they always want seconds and thirds !
