  • Bring water, berries and margarine to boil in large saucepan.
  • Stir in stuffing mix; cover. Remove from heat; let stand 5 min.
  • Fluff with fork. Stir in nuts.

Substitute

Substitute dried cherries or raisins for the cranberries.

Special Extra

Sprinkle with chopped fresh parsley, sage or rosemary just before serving.

I dress up my stove top dressing in a very similiar way, only I prepare the stuffing as directed but cut back on the liquid By 1/2 cup (I use chicken broth instead of water), then while the stuffing is simmering I saute onion, celery, cranberries and walnuts in melted butter with a little olive oil to keep it from burning. Then to the sauteed mixture I add poultry seasoning a little extra sage and onion powder. then when the stuffing is finished I stir in the sauteed ingredients. No one even knows it's stove top dressing, and they always want seconds and thirds !

It has now become one of my traditional Thanksgiving dishes. It's so tasty, so easy and really makes that box of Stovetop something special! I have also doubled the recipe to take to functions where it was a big hit!

I have made my stuffing like this for many years, for a little added crunch, I always chop 2 stalks of celery and add to water while boiling. This is an excellent recipe, will try with cherries for something new. I have also substituted apples for cranberries.
