  • Place sugar, water, cream of tartar and salt in heavy 1-quart saucepan. (Do not stir.) Bring to boil on high heat, without stirring, until candy thermometer registers 248°F.
  • Beat marshmallow creme and vanilla in small bowl with electric mixer on low speed until well blended. Gradually add hot sugar syrup, beating at medium speed until well blended. Beat on high speed 5 minutes or until mixture just begins to lose its gloss and hold its shape when dropped from spoon. Stir in pecans.
  • Drop teaspoonfuls of the marshmallow creme mixture onto sheets of wax paper. Cool completely. Store in airtight container at room temperature.

Shortcut

To quickly chop the nuts, process in electric blender or food processor.

Note

Final beating of the marshmallow creme mixture is critical to the success of the recipe. If the mixture is under beaten, it will not hold its shape.

Special Extra

Prepare as directed, adding 2 tsp. grated orange peel with the pecans. Cool completely. Dip bottom half of each piece in melted BAKER'S Semi-Sweet Baking Chocolate. Let stand until set.

My neighbor gave me the old recipe of divinity and when I came home I looked on here to see what was here and I saw this and said this has to be much quicker and easier....I just got married for the first time and I'm new in the kitchen but with having kraftfoods.com around it's been easy and now I know what I'm making for christmas with the family....IF THEY ONLY KNEW HOW EASY AND QUICK THIS WAS.....LOL and it tastes great too!!!!

However, the divinity didn't turn out so well. It turned out more like taffy than divinity. It did however have a great taste. I was told later after making this candy that usually the humidity has to just right in order for the candy to have the right consistancy.

There is a great variation to this recipe which simple calls for adding different colors of food coloring. You can make a delightful aray of colors such as; green, red, yellow, & orange, and send this as an inexpensive gift basket to all your friends and family. Your gift will be the rave of party.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from THIS WAS YUMMY! THIS WAS YUMMY!! I loved it! My grandfather has diverticulitis, and he can't eat nuts anymore, so I subed a half a cup of chocolate chips for it! I didnt thing it would turn out, but for me, it did. I perfer the orignal, but for my grandpa, this was PERRRFECCCTT! <3

Mom's was always fluffier and not grainy. Mine did get really thick so perhaps I mixed it to long? Haven't served it yet but plan to for Christmas.

My grandmother would be amazed if she could find out how amazingly simple this divinity is to make. You cannot tell the difference between this and the original recipe which could easily take two hours.
