  • Preheat oven to 350°F. Place all ingredients in large bowl. Beat with electric mixer on low speed just until moistened. Beat on medium speed 4 minutes or until well blended.
  • Pour into greased and floured 10-inch tube or fluted tube pan.
  • Bake 45 to 50 minutes or until toothpick inserted near center comes out clean. Cool 15 minutes; loosen cake from side of pan with spatula or knife. Gently remove cake from pan; cool completely on wire rack.

Substitute

Substitute 1 pkg. (2-layer size) white or devil's food cake mix for the yellow cake mix.

I buy the inexpensive store brand cake mix that doesn't require oil or have pudding added. The recipe will fill three 8 or 9 inch pans, (8 inch works a bit better) for a three layer cake. A 9 x 13 inch pan will make a sheet cake that gets good height. I wish the recipe would be printed on the Dream Whip box again, because I think it would be as popular now as it was 20 years ago.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I made this cake for Womens Assn. I made this cake for Womens Assn. and everyone thought that it was baked from scratch. I did bake it in a 9 x 13 pan and I made my own icing for it. I certainly will make this cake many more times. I think that it would be great taken to a patluck or any where that you want to take something. I have been looking for a dream cake recipe for a while and I am so happy that I went to your site in hopes that I could find one.

I used a low fat Brownie mix, 5 egg whites instead of eggs and fat free milk to create very low fat brownies. I brought them to work and left with an empty plate. Everyone thought that they were wonderful. Use non-stick cooking spray as well.
