These apple fritters are truly a cinch to make, but that won't stop your family from feeling amazed and grateful when you serve them.

What You Need

cups  all-purpose baking mix
1
cup  water
1/2
cup  BREAKSTONE'S or KNUDSEN Sour Cream
1
cup  chopped peeled apples
1/2
tsp.  ground cinnamon
1/2
cup  oil
2
Tbsp.  powdered sugar

Make It

HEAT oven to 200ºF.

MIX baking mix, water and sour cream. Stir in apples and cinnamon.

HEAT 2 Tbsp. oil in large nonstick skillet on medium heat. Carefully drop 1/4 cupfuls of batter, in batches of 4, into hot oil. Flatten each to 4-inch round; cook 2 min. on each side or until golden brown on both sides. Transfer to ovenproof plate; place in oven to keep warm until ready to serve. Repeat with remaining oil and batter.

SIFT sugar over warm fritters. Serve warm or at room temperature.

Look for apples that are firm and well colored with smooth, blemish-free skins. Choose the variety that best suits your needs. All-purpose apples for both eating raw and cooking uses include Cortland, Granny Smith, Jonathan, Fuji, Gravenstein, Empire, Jonagold, McIntosh, Pippin, Spy and Winesap. Best snacking and salad apples are Gala, Golden Delicious and Red Delicious. When cooking, use Rhode Island Greening, Rome Beauty or York Imperial.
