Easy Cheesy Hamburger Mac

With the addition of ground beef and a few seasonings, a mac and cheese dinner is easily transformed into a hearty skillet main dish.

What You Need

pkg. (7-1/4 oz.) KRAFT Macaroni & Cheese Dinner

lb. ground beef

3/4

cup milk

1/4

cup (1/2 stick) margarine

3/4

tsp. garlic salt

3/4

tsp. onion powder

1/8

tsp. ground black pepper

Make It

BRING 6 cups water to boil in large saucepan. Stir in Macaroni. Boil 7 to 10 minutes or until macaroni is tender, stirring occasionally.

MEANWHILE, brown meat in large skillet on medium heat; drain. Add the Cheese Sauce Mix and all remaining ingredients except macaroni; mix well. Reduce heat to low; simmer until heated through, stirring occasionally.

DRAIN macaroni. Add to ingredients in skillet; mix lightly.

Serve this main dish with a mixed green salad for a quick and tasty weekday meal.

Variation

Substitute 1 lb. boneless skinless chicken breasts, cut into chunks, for the ground beef. Cook Macaroni as directed. Meanwhile, cook and stir chicken in 1 Tbsp. oil in large skillet until cooked through. Add the Cheese Sauce Mix and all remaining ingredients except macaroni; mix well. Continue as directed.

It was very easy to make but the taste wasn't very good...I don't think I will be making this again

I'm sneaky and I added a can of pumpkin puree in order for my kids to get some vegetable fiber and vitamin C. If you use a whole can, you'll need to add some more cheese to cover the pumpkin flavor. I had some left-over Velveeta in the fridge that worked great!

I tried this recipe with mixed results. My husband liked it. Our son did not think it was cheesy enough and did'nt. I expected more of a cheese taste but it was watered down .

The cheese sauce added to the meat became watered down, and you could not taste it. The mixture was not cheesy at all. So, we add the cheese packet from a shells and cheese box, and it made a big difference. We also added a can of Rotel, and it gave it great flavor. Next time, I think I will add the cheese a different way, probably just mix it with the mac along with the seasonings so it doesn't get lost in the process.

We did like this, but will kick it up a knotch next time. I have about half of it left, so I plan to put a can of Ro-tel in it to serve in a few days. I used real onions and garlic and sauteed with the ground beef.

I used to use recipes simular to this until I came up with something different. Now I brown the hamburger, while boiling the macaroni, drain hamburger mix in a can of cream of mushroom, a can of undrained rotel diced tomatoes, and the cheese sauce. Then I drain very well the macaroni and mix it with the hamburger mixture...kids and husband loved the spicy creaminess!

My family loved this recipe. I added more cheese and sauteed my onions and garlic in stead of the powders. I also seasoned my meat with seasoned salt while cooking. It was very fast and delicious.

Very quick and easy to make. I added cooked broccoli to the mix. Everybody enjoyed it.
