Rated 5 out of 5 by from I wish I could give this recipe more stars. I wish I could give this recipe more stars. This is so simple but so delicious and such a crowd pleaser. I've always been hesitant to make trifles because they looked messy, but this actually looked beautiful with all the layers and the toffee on top. I added a bit of cool whip to the pudding mixture to thicken it up so it was more like a mousse. Next time I might add in some fresh raspberries and brush the cake with liqueur. Perfect for summer holidays and get togethers.

Ok, I used to hate those people who modified recipes to the point it was no longer recognized as the original recipe! BUT, sometimes you have to :( I find it incredibly difficult to find the four serving packages of instant pudding of any flavor, as in this case for the chocolate instant pudding. I even looked for the sugar free version. Didn't happen. So, as in many other recipes, I used 2 of the 6 serving size. I still used the same amount of everything else. I have had to do this with other recipes, it's never a problem. Also, I couldn't find toffee bars. I used the 8 pack of fun size Butterfingers. Yummy! I would definately make this again! The kids loved it!

I put a twist on it--I used vanilla pudding instead of chocolate & Oreo's instead of candy. It was AWESOME. I can't wait to make it again and neither can anyone else who tasted it. Definitely let it sit over night in the fridge--makes is MUCH better. And you don't need to cut cake into cubes (unless you prefer). Just crumble it! LOVED IT!!!!!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from EASY! EASY!! This looked beautiful and got lots of compliments. The taste was exactly what you'd expect...nothing out of the ordinary but a good dessert when you don't want to invest much time or effort. I might try browines instead of cake next time or possibly switch up the candy bars. There are endless possibilities you could try.

I have made it exactly as stated and I have varied. I have used 1/2 cake and 1/2 brownie-awesome! I have substituted the toffee for oreos-big hit. I have made it with sugar-free jello and whip cream-nobody noticed. The dessert looks great too!

I took the advice from another review and used Devil's food cake as well as I substituted Butterfinger for the candy - it was delicious! I think the cake is a bit wet with the pudding in a liquid state but my guests loved it. Next time I am going to letting the pudding thicken up a bit before adding it in.

I made this with light pudding, skim milk, light cool whip and instead of cake prepared a brownie mix with egg whites and applesauce instead of whole eggs and oil. It is DELICIOUS. And it tastes so rich that no one knows it's made with better-for-you ingredients. Try it this way!!!
