Asparagus spears snap off naturally where they are tough. Simply bend the spear near the bottom end and it will break off at the right point. Or, remove an inch or so of the "woody" portion off the bottom of the stalks with a sharp knife.

Made this yesterday as asparagus is in season. Microwaved asparagus in "pyrex" type dish so could use same dish in oven, less to wash! Had regular ranch dressing which I liberally peppered and that worked fine. Came out well. Would make again.
A bit too creamy for my taste, but otherwise ok
This recipe was amazing! We'd been grilling asparagus so this was the first time we baked it in the oven. I used bacon ranch dressing because that's what I had on hand. YUM!!
