MELT butter in medium saucepan on medium heat. Stir in flour until well blended. Cook on medium-low heat 2 min. or until mixture forms a smooth paste and is golden brown in color, stirring constantly with whisk.
ADD broth gradually, stirring until well blended. Bring to a boil, stirring constantly. Simmer on medium-low heat 5 min., stirring frequently.
STIR in coffee granules, thyme and pepper.
