  • Heat oven to 425ºF.
  • Mix meat, stuffing mix and water just until blended. Shape into 1-inch meatballs.
  • Place in 13x9-inch baking dish sprayed with cooking spray.
  • Bake 20 min. or until done (160ºF). Meanwhile, combine remaining ingredients.
  • Pour barbecue sauce mixture over meatballs; stir to evenly coat meatballs. Bake 10 min. or until sauce is heated through.

Substitute

Prepare using KRAFT Hickory Smoke Barbecue Sauce or your favorite variety of KRAFT Barbecue Sauce.

Substitute

Prepare using ground chicken or turkey.

Make Ahead

Prepare meatballs as directed, except omit the final baking step after covering the meatballs with the sauce. Cool, then refrigerate up to 24 hours. When ready to serve, bake the meatballs in 425ºF oven 20 min. or until meatballs and sauce are heated through.

If making for a dinner I would double the sauce so you have some to cover meatballs more, if for an appetizer it's the perfect amount of sauce. I had to cook these in the oven with bread at a lower temp, so cooked them at 350 for 30 minutes before adding sauce, then for another 15 minutes. Also mixed sauce together in a big bowl and poured over meatballs. One last note, I would stir them half way through the first baking time so that they don't get too firm on the bottom of pan!

The sauce for the meatballs was good but I would change the recipe some if I made this again. I would definately add more seasonings to the meatballs themselves because they were alittle bland. The stuffing wasn't enough flavor. I would also use a barbeque sauce that wasn't a smoked flavor. Maybe just honey barbeque. Or maybe half and half. The smoke flavor was just a tad stronger than I would prefer and I typically like smoke flavor.

When I make my "Sweet & Sour Meatballs" I use salt, pepper, garlic and 2 Tbs quick cook oats. I bake them on the broiler pan so any grease drains away. For my sauce I use 1 jar pineapple preserves and 1 jar chilli sauce. After the meatballs are done I put them in the crockpot and pour the already mixed sauce over them. Cook on high for about 3 hours or until sauce is hot. Ssometimes I use frozen meatballs.

We had this for a baby shower and I realized I should have tripled the recipe instead of doubling it. I actually added more sauce and mixed it separately in a bowl before pouring it over the meatballs just to give it a more uniform covering. I will make this again. Very easy, tasty, and quick to prepare. Also, easy to make ahead and reheat.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Very easy to assemble. Very easy to assemble. My son thought they were fabulous. I would suggest checking the meatballs after 10 minutes. I checked mine closer to 20 minutes and they were too done and burning on the bottom. But will definitely try them again.

To Dalgal21, I've found a Salisbury steak recipe that calls for Stove Top that my family loves and I've only made it unprepared. I do find it can be a bit dry so I usually add some milk. TLCII's recommendation sounds good too. I may try that next time.
