What You Need

Tbsp.  MAXWELL HOUSE Instant Coffee
1/2
cup  milk
3
 eggs
1
loaf  (8 oz.) French bread, cut into medium bite-sized cubes
1
cup  fresh pineapple wedges
1
 unpeeled orange, cut into wedges
16
 maraschino cherries
12
 wooden skewers
 Powdered sugar
 Maple-flavored or pancake syrup

Make It

PREHEAT broiler. Dissolve coffee granules in milk in small bowl. Add eggs; beat with wire whisk until well blended. Pour over bread cubes in large bowl; toss to coat. Let stand 5 min. or until egg mixture is evenly soaked up.

THREAD bread cubes and fruit alternately on skewers. Place on foil-covered baking sheet.

BROIL 8 to 10 min. or until bread is toasted and cooked through, turning occasionally. Sprinkle with the powdered sugar. Serve with syrup.

For best results, prepare as directed using stale French bread. The drier texture of the stale bread more readily soaks up the egg mixture.
Cooking Know-How
Leaving the peel on the orange helps to keep it intact during the skewering and broiling. Once cooked, it simply falls off the peel for easy eating.
