  • Cook bacon in medium saucepan until crisp. Remove bacon from pan, reserving drippings in saucepan. Drain bacon on paper towels.
  • Add green peppers, onions and garlic to reserved drippings; cook and stir on medium heat 5 min. Add tomato sauce, rice and black pepper; mix well. Stir in water. Bring to boil. Stir in peas; cover. Simmer on medium-low heat 20 min. Stir.
  • Crumble bacon; sprinkle over rice mixture.

Special Extra

For Caribbean flavor, place a banana leaf over the saucepan before covering it with the lid while the rice cooks.

    la receta es exelente, se elimina la tocineta todo los demas ingredientes estan bien pero yo eliminaria la salsa de tomate, el arroz queda mas suave y con mas sabor..

    Resido en Georgia, EU....Pero soy otra boricua que le encanta la cocina y mucho más nuestras recetas borincanas.....A esta receta de arroz con gandules hay que eliminarle la tocineta para que sea de PR....Yo preparo mi arroz con gandules con pedacitos de carne de cerdo o de jamón....Pero mi secreto clave del buen sabor es sofreir un poco de plátano rallado antes de comenzar a echar los demás ingredientes....Y no se puede olvidar el tapar la olla con la famosa hoja de plátano....Queda riquísimo....Se los recomiendo...

    Soy puertoriquena y cuando hago arroz con gandules le hecho masitas de cerdo para que le de un toque diferente.Amigos que aqui escriben no se desesperen no todo el mundo cocina igual dense cuenta que todos somos de Puerto Rico y ninguno hace el arroz con gandules igual Disfruten su receta que cada una es unica
