Rated 5 out of 5 by from follow each step carefully for excellent results everytime I've been making this same recipe since 1985 and it has always turned out well. The key is to closely follow the instructions and do them in the proper sequence; you are guaranteed success. A bit time consuming & yeah, a pile of dirty dishes...but combined with the coconut & pecan frosting, FABULOUS

I can't describe how moist and flavorful this cake is and the frosting is so rich that having it between the layers is just enough! This went straight to my recipe box. I just need another reason to make this cake again!

I grew up loving this cake (my Gram would make it for my birthday and other special occasions)! Then MY children began requesting it for their birthdays! Gram passed away in August, so now I will carry on the tradition. Don't know if it tastes quite as good as Gram's, but nothing ever could!
