Serving Suggestion

For a great summer meal, serve this classic potato salad with grilled chicken breasts and a fresh fruit salad.

Picnic Safety Tip

When taking food to a picnic, do so in an insulated bag with a reusable ice pack. If you don't have any reusable ice packs, freeze individual juice boxes the night before the picnic. When you're ready to go, pack the frozen juice boxes around the foods in the cooler. The juice boxes will keep your food cold and will be thawed when you get to the picnic to serve as cold drinks for the kids.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I LOVE this Great American Potato Salad recipe! I LOVE this Great American Potato Salad recipe!!*SMILE* I like to add one green pepper finely chopped into bite sized pieces to my potato salad recipe. The one ingredient that I have ALWAYS omitted from my Potato Salad recipe is putting onions into it,YUCK!! I know it is a personal preference, but I just can't stand the taste of onion in any potato salad recipe!! I gave this recipe 5 stars and you can add or take away any ingredients that you like or dislike, for your own personal preference. If you choose to use eggs in this recipe, make sure that you finely chop them up,so the egg flavor will be evenly distributed through your potato salad!!*SMILE*

I've always wanted to make potato salad, but have been afraid to try, since other members of my family make it so well. I decided to give this a shot and am glad I did - it's fantastic! Be warned though - it needs to sit at least overnight. I made it the day before I was going to take it to a party and tasted it and was severely disappointed. I tasted it again right before leaving for the party (I wasn't going to even take it, but decided to taste it just to see if it got better) and it was SOOO good! So don't be discouraged when it doesn't taste great the first night - it will be fantab by the next day!

I really like this potato salad recipe alot however I have made some changes to it to make it even better!! I have omitted the onion, celery, and pickle relish since my family and I don't care for these things in our potato salad. I have replaced these things with a little bit of prepared mustard,a few more eggs, and some green peppers chopped into bite sized pieces! Everytime I have served this potato salad recipe people have scraped the bowl clean and have been asking for more. I am always asked to make this recipe for our family barbecues, family reunions and our family picnics too!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I'm not known in my family for being a good cook. I'm not known in my family for being a good cook. Usually, when we are invited to bring something to a bbq, my family suggests I bring a watermelon. I found this recipe and tried it before a party and I am in love! It's really really easy and delicious. My family was impressed, people thought I bought it at a store, because I couldn't have possibly made something so yummy. I'm hesitant to share the recipe with my family, because I want to continue to "wow" my family and don't want them to know how easy it really is:)

I am 81 years old and this is the way I have always made potato salad, the same way my mother and grandmother made it. My daughter made it and complained that hers did not taste as good as mine. I asked her about the mayonaise she used and it was not Kraft Original. When she changed the mayonaise to Krafts in hers, made all the difference in the taste. In the south, we mix the salad while the potatoes are warm and it really becomes as one of my friends call it Mashed potato salad.

My family has always made potato salad like this without the dill pickle& just one stalk of celery.Everywhere I take this salad people love it,we don't mash or use alot of mustard this is the real way it should be made,we add one other small ingrediant that tops it off-just a dash of garlic salt & it's perfect.Glad to know we are not the only ones that make this type of salad! If you want a change (like the red potato Idea!) red sweet onion is also good in it.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from I have used this basic recipe for years. I have used this basic recipe for years. However... if I made potato salad w/ 4 cups of potatoes my husband would NOT be happy. I actually start w/ 5# of potatoes! (some has to go to my Dad and my friend , who swears she can't make it like mine!) I put the eggs in an egg slicer and add them that way b/c we like the eggs in larger pieces. As you stir, they break apart more anyway. I don't use celery seed, I finely chop celery and add to taste. Also, I add a splash of cider vinegar and a little sugar to the sauce. It adds a sweetness and zip at the same time. My Dad was a Wash DC firefighter; this was his recipe and firefighters like good food! I have a friend who uses this recipe but uses sour pickles finely chopped. I never heard of them but they add a different, but very good taste for those of you who don't want the sweetness of sweet pickle relish.
