Done correctly, a grilled portobello sandwich can be one of the heartiest, most delicious sandwiches out there. Here's how to do it.

What You Need

 portobello mushrooms, gills removed, cored
slices  red onion (1/4 inch)
cup  KRAFT Zesty Italian Dressing
 whole wheat sandwich rolls, split
cup  KRAFT Real Mayo Mayonnaise
 KRAFT Swiss Singles

Make It

HEAT grill to medium heat.

BRUSH mushrooms and onions with dressing. Grill 3 min. on each side. Brush with any remaining dressing; grill an additional 2 min. on each side.

SPREAD cut sides of rolls with mayo; fill with mushrooms, onions and Singles.

Create a super sized veggie sandwich by adding sliced tomato and a lettuce leaf or spice it up by spreading chipotle pepper in adobo sauce over the bottom half of the roll.
Use Your Grill
While grilling mushrooms and onions, you can also warm up your bread on the grill. Spread with mayo and top with grilled veggies.
Make Ahead
Grill portobello mushrooms and red onions ahead of time; cool and refrigerate. Warm up in microwave when ready to eat.
