Hanukkah Sugar Cookies

A rich butter and cream cheese cookie dough is rolled out, cut into holiday shapes, sprinkled with colored sugar and baked for a festive treat.

What You Need

pkg. (8 oz.) PHILADELPHIA Cream Cheese, softened

cup butter, softened

1/3

cup granulated sugar

1/4

tsp. vanilla

cups flour

Colored sugar or decorating icings

Make It

BEAT first 4 ingredients in large bowl with mixer until well blended. Add flour; mix well. Cover. Refrigerate several hours or overnight.

HEAT oven to 350°F. Roll out dough to 1/8-inch-thickness on lightly floured surface. Cut into shapes with 2-inch cookie cutters; sprinkle with colored sugar. Or, leave plain to frost later with decorating icing (after cookies are baked and cooled). Place on baking sheets.

BAKE 12 to 15 min. or until edges are lightly browned. Remove to wire racks. Cool completely.

This is my family's favorite cookie recipe. I add an egg, extra real vanilla and an egg when I make it and we decorate it with royal icing. When I take something to an event, these cookies are what everyone requests. Make sure to chill them extra well before rolling out.

These are definitely not traditional sugar cookies. They are more like a pastry and very bland. This recipe is very similar to my kolaczki recipe. If you can get away from the fact of this being a sugar cookie, then they are good cookies - just don't expect to eat a sugar cookie. Also, I glazed them to add some sweetness.

A little flat on flavor. I may make again with some added orange or lemon zest. Maybe some different extracts. Definitely easy to bake and predictable baking time

I ABSOLUTELY LOVE THIS RECIPE!!! THE COOKIES GET GOBBLED UP FAST! I FOUND THE RECIPE SUPER EASY AND THE COOKIE CUTTERS DO NOT STICK TO THE DOUGH! I ICE MINE TO MAKE THEM EVEN HEALTHIER!!

I used this recipe to make cookies last year. It was easy and I had no problems making the cookies. I made a batch of cookies with this dough recipe and one with store bought dough. I had a coworker who tried both and preferred the homemade cookies as opposed to the store bought dough.

I had horrible results with this recipe. The dough was very easy to work with but baked with "air pockets" on top of the cookies. I've never had anything like this with any cookie recipe before. Waste of time and ingredients!!

My son is allergic to eggs, so I was happy to find a sugar cookie recipe that didn't use them. However, the dough wasn't very easy to work with and the flavor is not as good as a traditional sugar cookie recipe.

the dough wasn't good...couldn't form it easily,and after baking it was very dry

I have used this recipe for years. Kids like to use this as the cookie cutters don't stick to the dough.

These are AWESOME. If you have rubbery cookies that will happen with on over worked dough.
