I did not add the red pepper flakes, just the ground red pepper and next time I will do half of that amount because not all of the kids liked the spiciness (although my husband and I LOVED it). Also, instead of the black-eyed peas I added a can of black and red beans and about a cup of onions. I used brown rice to make it healthier. Finally, I added corn. It made it so yummy and would make again! My husband to save this recipe :)

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Very simple recipe for busy worknight supper. Very simple recipe for busy worknight supper. I cut back on pepper (kids don't like) & added minced garlic (the kind already minced in jar). I also used Minute Brand Brown Rice for added fiber. Had cornbread & canteloupe slices to round out meal. Am planning to add a package of chopped frozen spinach next go round. Thanks Kraft!!!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Perfect recipe for my husband who must have Hoppin John on New Year's Day. Perfect recipe for my husband who must have Hoppin John on New Year's Day. I've made it from scratch in the past spending all morning in the kitchen. This recipe is much faster and easier and less pans to wash. Serve this up with spinach and cornbread and you've got a great meal.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from My family enjoyed this recipe. My family enjoyed this recipe. I added a small amount of garlic powder and I used cayenne pepper in place of the ground red pepper. It wasnt to spicy. When it was done, I topped it with chopped green onions and drizzled it with pepper sauce. We will make this one again.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from So this turned out to be really spicy. So this turned out to be really spicy. I guess I should have known because the only spice you use is red pepper. It did make a lot. But maybe it wouldn't have seemed like so much if we had liked it. Might try to make it again but use a different seasoning instead.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I actually have made this recipe multiple times. I actually have made this recipe multiple times. I boil a ham bone in the chicken broth for a couple of hours before adding the sausage. Whatever meat comes off the bone adds a lot of additional flavor. Gets even better the next day.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from I agree with another - a LOT of food. I agree with another - a LOT of food. I cut the rec for 6, including 4 teens. Maybe my mistake was having biscuits & salad too. Very good but too much left over. Next time I'll cut it for 3. I don't know how people can eat so much.
