As for the comment about not being cocoa but being hot chocolate because of no cocoa....well then have some fun and be creative...substitute cocoa.....and try Splenda instead of sugar....and while your at it, try flavoring with almond instead of vanilla. This is the way hot cocoa should be made and then maybe a dollop of whip cream and some cinnamon sugar on top. My grandchildren love the varieties we come up with. Enjoy!

I followed the recipe except that I substituted some canned unsweetened condensed milk for some of the fresh. Took about 5 minutes total, including pulling out the saucepan! It worked out great - very chocolatey and old-timey - the kind your mom might have made for you when you came in from playing in the snow. I much prefer this to the packaged instant - highly recommended! :P

I substituted Silk (Brand name) Vanilla Soy milk and added on a few drops of vanilla extract. I am lactose intollerent and this substitution turned out fantastic! Even my grown son (who has refused any of my efforts to have him try soy milk) loved it, and never new the switch! Very healthy!

It was not very thick as I would have liked it. Next time I will omit the water and just use 3cups of milk or I will use 1 cup of water as suggested and use 1 cups of heavy cream and 1cup of milk.
