If using hard-cooked eggs for your Easter egg hunt and you plan on eating the eggs later, do not let the eggs set at room temperature for more than 2 hours, including coloring the eggs (or 1 hour if the temperature is 90°F or higher). Hide the eggs just before the hunt, in places that are protected from lawn chemicals, dirt, animals, pets and other sources of bacteria. Discard any cracked eggs. Or better yet, use colorful plastic eggs for your hunt, since this alleviates the potential food safety issue.
