  • Add 3/4 cup boiling water to blue gelatin mix; stir 2 min. until completely dissolved. Add 1/2 cup ice cubes; stir until melted. Pour into crust; refrigerate 5 to 10 min. or until set but not firm.
  • Meanwhile, repeat to dissolve red gelatin mix in separate bowl; stir in remaining ice cubes. Cool 5 min. or until slightly thickened.
  • Spread COOL WHIP over blue gelatin layer; cover with red gelatin. Refrigerate 2 hours or until firm.

Best of Season

Garnish with fresh seasonal berries just before serving. Or, arrange 1/2 cup berries on bottom of crust before covering with the blue gelatin.

Variation

Prepare using your favorite 2 flavors of JELL-O Gelatin.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from I had a really hard time with this recipe. I had a really hard time with this recipe. It seems really easy but, buy the time I got done with the blue jello, I knew I wouldn't have enough room for the red layer. I tried to limit the whip cream as mush as possible, but I had red jello spill all over the place. I tried to save it by putting the rest of the cool whip on top and decorating the pie like a flag with blueberries and strawberries. I still didn't take it to my family function because It still looked sloppy. All in all, If you decide to make this recepe, do not use all of the blue and red jello, you'll just make a mess!!!!!!! P.S. I does taste good, I just be cautous when making it.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from I made this a couple of years ago and liked it. I made this a couple of years ago and liked it. I was kind of afraid to try again after reading the comments. I tried letting the red set up a little longer and it seemed to work. I put it in the fridge for about 10 minutes to cool. I also slowly poured the red at the side of the crust so it could gently and slowly run across the cool whip. Did not have any trouble with the Cool Whip floating to the top this way. The blue layer definitely takes about 25 minutes to set up. I bought a deep dish crust as suggested by someone else and I would have to say that is key. Just a little patience and this turned out a lot better than I anticipated!

I made this pie for my family get together at my grandma'a on the sunday after july 4th. I thought it would be a great idea since it was july 4th. So I started making it and it takes alot longer than the recipe says. All the Jello needs to sit longer and make sure your red jello is nice and thick (like the video) because mine wasnt and when i poured it over the cool whip , the cool whip rose to the top. It was horrible. I was upset because it didnt look right. so before i served it i just smoothes a good thick layer of cool whip over the top to cover up my mess. my family loved it though and they said it tasted good. good luck!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from I agree with the first post. I agree with the first post. It doesn't take 5 - 10 minutes for the blue jello to set. I waited about 25 minutes before it was somewhat set. My cool whip layer rose to the top of my red gelatin layer as well. I am quite disappointed in this recipe as I have guests coming over tomorrow and I have to serve them this pie!! At least it will get a laugh. If anyone else is going to make this, I would refrigerate the red gelatin as well (in the glass bowl) because it takes way longer for the red gelatin to get firm as well. I think the reason why the cool whip floated to the top of the red gelatin was because the red gelatin wasn't set up enough. Good luck!!

I wonder if they watched the video because the recipe does not state to "spoon" the red jello on top of the cool-whip. Also, i did not use sugar free jello so i don't know if that made the difference in the thickness of the jello or not but also make sure that you don't put more than 1/2 cup of ice cubes in or the jello won't thicken. I also tweaked the recipe and everyone thought i was another martha. I took a mylar stencil with stars that circle the border and put cool whip on to make stars on top of the pie. And i used an indivicual star a bit larger in the middle. It was awesome and perfect. Huge success!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from This pie was certainly not easy to make. This pie was certainly not easy to make. I had alot of problems with the red jello running under the whipped topping. The size of the pie shell that is called for I also found to be inadequate. It was much too small for the amount of jello and whipped topping that is called for. I was very frustrated after attempting to make this pie for our July 4th party. I ended up throwing one away, and the other will certainly not be served at the party as it is absolutely hideous! It made a huge mess trying to move the pie to the refrigerator to set as well, so I had to clean out the fridge and mop the floors when I was finished. I will not be making this "easy" pie again!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from What a colossal mess! What a colossal mess!!! Do yourself a favor BUY THE DEEP CRUST!! Don't go by the list above. The two 3 oz boxes of Jello and one cup of Cool Whip DOES NOT FIT IN THE 6 oz PIE CRUST!! Who came up with that!?! I managed to get it into the refrigerator after spilling most of the red Jello - RED, STICKY, STAINY RED JELLO - on my counter, kitchen mat, floor and refrigerator!! I am hoping it at least tastes good! But come on, Jello, Cool Whip and graham cracker?? I'm not holding my breath! I'm just glad I didn't make this for my 4th of July party! What a mess!!

There is something seriously the matter with this recipe... although the dessert tasted fine (how can you go wrong with fresh berries and Jello?) it was an absolute eyesore... no eye appeal at all. I might try it again sometime but let the blue layer completely set before adding the Cool Whip and letting the red layer cool right off and spoon it on so as not to penetrate the Cool Whip... perhaps freezing the Cool Whip but that may jeopardize the entire thing. Lovely idea that didn't work at all and I followed instructions completely because that is what I do.
