  • Beat butter, cream cheese and sugar in large bowl with electric mixer on medium speed until well blended. Blend in egg yolks, vanilla and peel; set aside. Mix flour, baking powder and salt. Gradually add to butter mixture, mixing well after each addition. Cover and refrigerate 1 hour.
  • Preheat oven to 350°F. Place dough on lightly floured surface; roll out to 1/4-inch thickness. Cut into circles with 2-inch round cookie cutter. Place on ungreased baking sheets; brush with beaten egg whites. Indent centers; fill with preserves.
  • Bake 15 minutes or until edges are lightly browned.

Substitute

Substitute your favorite flavor preserves for the strawberry preserves.

I am an avid cookie baker and after reading the rave reviews for this recipe I was excited to try it, however, I was nothing short of dissatisfied. The cookies never rose correctly and had it not been for the strawberry preserves, they would have tasted like a biscuit I would have made with stew....nearly flavorless. I won't be trying these again

I was seaching for this recipe trying to figure out how to make these cookies that my grandmother's sister made. They were always soooo good we would argue of the almond ones. I tried this recipe and they came out delicious. I too sprinkled powdered sugar on them after they came out of the oven. I made them a bit smaller though almost bite-size and they turned out great!

I tried strawberry philly with the strawberry preserves, it was great. We also made them using caramels, and almond butter in the center. Once again, turned out great.

I have been making these for a long time my family and friends love them, and I seem to make them for everyone. I add a touch of powdered sugar to them sprinkled on top when they come out to warm. Delicious !!!!! Thanks
