plastic drinking straw

assorted flavor ring-shaped hard candies or CREME SAVERS Hard Candies (sold in bag)

Shoestring licorice

Make It

PREHEAT oven to 325°F. Cover baking sheet with parchment paper or foil. Cut a 1-1/2-inch piece of straw; set aside to make hole in ornament. Unwrap and arrange candies on parchment paper in circular shape, filling in center of circle.

BAKE 3 to 6 min. or until candies are melted. Remove from oven. Immediately use an oiled toothpick or skewer to swirl the colors to create a marbleized look. Make a hole, about 1/2 inch from the top, by pressing straw into ornament, leaving in place until candy is cooled.

COOL completely before removing ornament from paper. Gently remove straw. Thread a 6- to 8-inch piece of shoestring licorice into the hole to hang the ornament.

Only prepare 1 ornament at a time on each baking sheet. Since the candies melt at different rates, baking more than 1 at a time could cause some ornaments to overbake.

It was very fun to mske, and was easy to make with metal cookie cutters, but half of them shattered when we took them off the foil. They tasted superb! I would definately tell a friend about them.

Turned out very pretty but they shattered or broke apart when being handled! The kids were devistated that all that fun effort went to waste!

i made these with my preschool class and found the best way to do the hole is when the candy is still a little melted to make a hole with a toothpick, swirling it around to make the hole big enough. also, the sticky part can be fixed by painting elmers glue on the FINISHED, COOLED ornaments. we added our names with a silver sharpie pen. my kids loved it!

I liked this new idea. You have to be careful not to bake too long. Also, I found that they are somewhat fragile when removing the straw. Overall, I like them. We made 5 or 6 ornaments.

I have tried this recipe two times. The first one I left in the oven to long. The second time came out perfect. The lifesaver are stuck together and the hole came out just fine. The only thing I don't like about this recipe is that the final product is very sticky and not a good idea for presents

I tried different ornaments & was very dissappointed with the results. I won't try this one again.

This seemed like a very cute idea at the time. I was planning on making the ornaments as gifts for my students. I attempted this recipe several times and was very disappointed in the results. Not only did the ornaments not look anything like the beautiful picture in the magazine, but they didn't melt together at all or they melted into a mess. I tried many different time increments and received the same disappointing results. The only thing this recipe left me with was wasted lifesavers and burnt fingers (trying to push the lifesavers together). This recipe isn't worth your time so my advise is to just enjoy the lifesavers.

I think these are great gift ideas. I plan to make these with my daughter and give them to her friends as gifts.
