What You Need

pkg. (2-layer size) white cake mix

pkg. (3 oz.) JELL-O Strawberry Flavor Gelatin, or any red flavor

tub (8 oz.) COOL WHIP Whipped Topping, thawed

1/4

cup seasonal colored sugar or sprinkles

Make It

HEAT oven to 350ºF.

PREPARE cake batter as directed on package. Stir in dry gelatin mix until blended; spoon into 24 paper-lined muffin cups, filling each cup half full.

PLACE small marble or 1/2-inch ball of foil between each liner and side of muffin cup, pushing liner into batter to form a heart shape.

BAKE 20 to 22 min. or until toothpick inserted in centers comes out clean. Cool completely; remove marbles or foil balls.

FROST cupcakes with COOL WHIP. Decorate with sugar.

The idea was great. unfortunately the marble trick did not work for me. They did not come out looking even remotely like hearts. The receipe is great as it is just standard cupcakes. Can't go wrong there. I would just make normal ones next time and decorate them special for valentines.

Made these cupcakes for the family and they LOVED them! Especially the kids since they helped out preparing and decorating the cupcakes.

These were perfect!! I made them for my grandaughters birthday party, the children have so much trouble with cake and ice cream, but with the cupcakes and small party themed cup with ice cream they were a real hit! And no time at all to get ready! And the cool whip went over better than ooey gooey buttercream!

These were good and very easy to make. My kids loved them and the whipped cream makes them lighter. I think with frosting it would make them heavy and too sweat. I did not however, attempt the heart shape, sounded like too much work.

I was very disappointed with this recipe. I thought it was a clever idea but the heart shape didn't turn out. It just looked like a deformed cupcake. I had to throw out the batch because I was too ashamed to serve them. After making these, I see why Kraft showed the side of the cupcake and not the top -- because it doesn't work.

i made this for my sons valentine party. They turned out very good and the kids liked them. I tried to make them into the heart shape but i don think they looked very heart shaped.

This was very good, I didn't even attempt to shape it into a heart, I just made it as regualr cupcakes. They were really good!!

The heart indent idea did not work - but I did something different. Put the whipped topping in a pastry bag and make a heart on top of the cupcake... I thought it looked CUTE! I love the idea of using Jell-O.
