Mashed Potato Layer Bake

One layer of creamy, cheesy deliciousness is good—but not good enough. So we made two. This mashed potato casserole will be the best-loved side at every holiday meal.

What You Need

lb. baking potatoes (about 9), peeled, chopped and cooked

1/2

lb. sweet potatoes (about 1 large), peeled, chopped and cooked

tub (8 oz.) PHILADELPHIA Chive & Onion Cream Cheese Spread

1/2

cup BREAKSTONE'S or KNUDSEN Sour Cream

1/4

tsp. black pepper

1/4

cup KRAFT Shredded Parmesan Cheese

1/4

cup KRAFT Shredded Triple Cheddar Cheese with a TOUCH OF PHILADELPHIA

Make It

HEAT oven to 375°F.

PLACE potatoes in separate bowls. Add half each of the cream cheese spread, sour cream and pepper to each bowl; mash until potatoes are creamy.

STIR half the Parmesan into white potatoes, then stir half the cheddar into sweet potatoes. Layer half each of the potatoes in 2-qt. clear casserole. Repeat layers.

BAKE 15 min. Top with remaining cheeses; bake 5 min. or until melted.

Make Ahead

Assemble casserole as directed, but do not add the cheese topping. Refrigerate casserole and cheese topping separately up to 3 days. When ready to serve, bake casserole (uncovered) as directed, increasing baking time as needed until casserole is heated through. Top with remaining cheeses and continue as directed.

Substitute

Prepare using KRAFT Grated Parmesan Cheese.

Everyone loved it at Thanksgiving dinner! Added a little baking mix and couple of eggs to the leftovers and made GREAT potato pancakes!

Delicious! Followed the recipe! VERY GOOD - it's the Chive & Onion Cream Cheese that makes it. DELICIOUS!!

Loved it!!! Had enough leftover for 3 days and didnt get tired of eating. The sweetness of the sweet potatoes mixed with the white potatoes and the cheeses is delicious!!

This was delicious...but HEAVY!! Wow! I did 1 1/2 times the recipe to layer in a 9x13 glass baking dish - I did end up using milk in the white potatoes - and 2 whole containers of the chive/onion cream cheese for the entire recipe - I think I got confused on the cheeses and put the parmesan in both and the cheddar on top...this was a great alternative to 2 separate potato dishes! Everyone LOVED it! I will make this again!!

This came out somewhat dry and tasteless, considering the effort involved. I fixed it for Christmas dinner and most of my guests' comments used the word "interesting"... which is the kiss of death for recipes. I won't make this again.

Would I like this recipe even if I don't like sweet potatoes? Are they still pretty potent or does the cheese tone it down a little?

Very, Very delicious, a different way to serve sweet potatoes. The combination of mashed potatoes & sweet potatoes were great...many thanks.

This is delicious! Nice and hearty for a cool fall day. I use a 9X13 baking dish and I could only do one layer of each potato mixture, but it was still pretty. I did add a little cream to the white potato mixture because it seemed very dry and I had trouble mashing it, but other than that, great recipe!
