I made these using the substitution suggestions (I have a hard-copy recipe using those ingredients from an older Kraft magazine). Although I'm tempted to try it using the Chive & Onion spread, I probably won't -- it just wasn't as good as I thought it would be. It tasted kind of strange. I don't think it was the nuts that made it strange, as some have said -- I think it was the mixture of herbs, spices, and green onions. My friend really raved about it, but she was the only one out of 4 of us that really liked it. I did not think it was as hard to put together as some have suggested, and aside from the taste, having individual cheese balls instead of one big one is at least unique and fun.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from A big hit at parties! A big hit at parties! Delicious like a traditional cheese ball, minus the mess!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from These are great! These are great! I made them as an appetizer for our Christmas open house, and they went over really well. I used regular cream cheese with chives, and they were still very tasty. The most time consuming part is making them into individual balls, but my husband and I think it's worth it; they're much easier to eat than a chunk of a big cheese ball.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I made this for a family christmas party & it went over very well. I made this for a family christmas party & it went over very well. My husband said if there was any left he wanted some more. I did use oscar mayer real bacon bits instead of the chopped up bacon & it turned out well& made it very quickly. Also I used regular chopped walnuts. But they were very good. I would recommend this recipe to anyone.

I felt that the addition of garlic and Italian Seasoning to the already flavorful chive cream cheese made this recipe too strong. I attempted to mute the overpowering flavors with extra plain cream cheese but it was still too strong. I believe it would have been better starting out with plain cream cheese and adding the other seasonings.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from I really liked these. I really liked these. They are something different to serve at a party. I don't think the flavor of the cheese balls is too strong at all, but then again, I love food with strong, bold flavors. I think using plain cream cheese would be too bland. All in all, these mini cheese balls look cute and taste great!

I made it at the last party I hosted and it was such a huge hit that people are requesting their own private cheese balls with their names on them for the next party I'm throwing.
