Make It

  • Heat oven to 400°F.
  • Unroll breadstick dough; separate into 12 sticks. Cut each crosswise in half; flatten each piece to 1-inch-wide strip.
  • Spoon 1 tsp. mozzarella onto center of each ham slice; roll up tightly. Place 1 ham roll near one end of each dough strip. Fold dough over ham; pinch edges together to seal. Place on baking sheet; sprinkle with Parmesan.
  • Bake 12 to 15 min. or until golden brown. Serve warm.

Cooking Know-How

Make sure the ham and cheese are completely enclosed to prevent cheese from leaking as the calzones are baked.

Special Extra

To make these even more special, serve with KRAFT Classic Ranch Dressing or GREY POUPON Savory Honey Mustard as a dipping sauce.

Substitute

Prepare using OSCAR MAYER Hard Salami, or 6 quartered slices OSCAR MAYER Bologna.

I make these in bulk (2-3 batches), wrap them in wax paper and then foil, refrigerate them, and send them with my husband to work for lunch. I double up on the dough and use 2 slices of ham and twice the cheese. The dough is not difficult to roll out if you sprinkle flour on the counter and on top of the dough before rolling it. The prep time listed is definitely on the low end, especially if it's your first time to make these...it takes a while to get the hang of it. I brushed olive oil over the tops before sprinkling on the parmesean. This helped it stick, which is worth it because the parm adds so much flavor. What a hearty, versatile recipe!

I also put down a layer of spagetti sauce before putting in the meat and cheese. I actually used different meats and cheeses. Some of them had the ham and mozzarella, some of them were ham and pepperjack cheese, some were pepperoni and mozzarella, and some were pepperoni and pepperjack cheese. It was fun, and everyone really liked them. It was a little bit of work to put them together, but they cooked really fast.

I know these are called Mini Calzones but the amount of dough that this recipe called for would have made ultra mini calzones. I don't even know how this recipe could possibly turn out right with the amounts indicated. I had to not cut the breadstick. They tasted ok with honey ham but they didn't look anything like the picture displayed no matter how hard I tried. So taste..3 and presentation..0.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from I used turkey instead of ham. I used turkey instead of ham. I would probably use ham with swiss cheese next time to get more flavor. It was also difficult to make the dough cover the entire piece of turkey. Next time I think I will use bigger pieces of dough, probably biscuits instead of the breadsticks. The kids loved it though. I served it with a side of ranch for dipping.

I got tired of making them so small, so after making a few, I started using 2 breadstick halves and 2 ham slices for each. They were still fairly small. Also, they were more oblong than pictured here. However, still good! Would be good with some mustard on the inside.

I have started using the refrigerated pizza dough instead of the breadsticks and then just cutting them apart when I am done. SO much faster, and just as tasty. Every time I make them, they ALL get eaten. I also serve with marinara sauce.

I used grand sized biscuit dough, tearing them in half, and putting the meat and cheese in the center. I also spread a mixture of pesto sauce and minced garlic in a conola base on one side of the biscuit before sealing the two sides together. This was very good, and the possibilities for ingredients are endless.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from I brought these for a bake sale at work. I brought these for a bake sale at work. Everyone loved them. I used a cloth covered rolling pin to flatten out the dough on wax paper. This seemed to work real well. When reheating these 10 seconds in the microwave is plenty. Next I'm going to try making them with a whole breadstick.
