  • Cut wieners lengthwise in half, starting each cut about 1 inch from 1 end of each wiener. Roll each wiener one-quarter turn and cut a second lengthwise cut, again starting about 1 inch from uncut end. (This will form the 4 legs of each octopus.) Use sharp knife or kitchen shears to cut each leg lengthwise in half, about 1 inch from uncut end, creating a total of 8 legs in each wiener. Poke 2 holes into the uncut portion of each wiener for the eyes.
  • Prepare Dinner as directed on package. Meanwhile, add wieners to separate saucepan of boiling water; cook as directed on package, watching each wiener turn into an octopus right before your eyes.
  • Spoon Dinner into 4 serving bowls; top each with a wiener octopus.

As a single mom of two active teens and a 4-year-old, I'm rarely able to get everyone together at the same time for a sit-down meal. Tonight I made this dinner for the family (I doubled the recipe and gave everyone two hotdogs, served with a side of peas), thinking just the 4-year old would get a kick out of it. Much to my surprise, even the teenagers thought it was great. The best part was that it kept everyone at the table. Thanks!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from So much mileage out of a simple hot dog and macaroni! So much mileage out of a simple hot dog and macaroni! My grandkids love this and it is something only Gramma makes. They especially like it when the octopus yells, 'Help me!' when they eat the legs.....(a little Gramma ventriloquism). They call it 'octopus stew' though because of a quote from a Jamie Lee Curtis children's book.....'I like me when I try something new. Even when Grandma makes Octopus Stew'.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I started making this recipe when our son was 3 years old. I started making this recipe when our son was 3 years old. He was so picky I could hardly get him to eat a thing. He GLADLY gobbled these up. He is now 4 years old and STILL asks for this to be made. I have made them with organic hot dogs, fake hot dogs and regular hot dogs. Great kiddo recipe!

All the kids loved it and we continue to make it at home. You can use a plastic knife and let the kids cut up the hot dogs too. We make silly faces now and laugh as we clean the plate.

I made this quick and easy dish on a night when I had not only my girls (5 and 2), but also my 4 year old neice. When they came to the table, they oooohhed and aaahhhed. That was one night when I didn't even have to nag them to eat. Bowls were cleaned!!
