Mississippi Mud Bars

Semi-sweet and white chocolate chunks are stirred into the cookie dough, then melted and swirled over the baked bars for a double dose of decadence.

What You Need

1/2

cup (1 stick) butter or margarine, softened

3/4

cup firmly packed brown sugar

egg

tsp. vanilla

cup flour

1/2

tsp. baking soda

1/4

tsp. salt

pkg. (4 oz. each) BAKER'S Semi-Sweet Chocolate, chopped, divided

1-1/2

pkg. (4 oz. each) BAKER'S White Chocolate (6 oz.), chopped, divided

cup chopped PLANTERS Walnuts, divided

Make It

PREHEAT oven to 350°F. Line 9-inch square baking pan with foil, with ends of foil extending over sides of pan. Grease foil.

BEAT butter, sugar, egg and vanilla in large bowl with electric mixer on medium speed until light and fluffy. Add flour, baking soda and salt; mix well. Stir in half each of the chocolates and walnuts. Spread into prepared pan.

BAKE 25 min. or until toothpick inserted in center comes out almost clean. (Do not overbake.) Remove from oven. Sprinkle with remaining chocolates. Cover with foil. Let stand 5 min. or until chocolates are melted. Cut through chocolates with knife several times for marble effect. Sprinkle with remaining 1/2 cup walnuts. Cool in pan on wire rack. Lift dessert from pan, using foil handles. Cut into 32 bars. Store in tightly covered container at room temperature.

This recipe is good...not great. Actually it is more like cake and not bars. Has a good taste but if you are wanting something similiar to layer bar cookies this is not the recipe!

These are awesome! Gone in seconds every time I make them! I have used all kinds of chopped candy in place of the bakers chocolate.

I cannot say enough good things about these bars...I have been making them for several years and they have become our signature item for holidays and parties. Even when my kids take birthday treats to school, they (and their friends) ask for these! I also make them for a cookie exchange party and for teacher gifts...they are continually requested by most people we know! A little pricey with the amount of chocolate that is used but worth every penny...people tell me they think they came from a "fancy bakery"! I usually don't use the walnuts but they are excellent either way.
