  • Heat oven to 350°F.
  • Beat cake mix, dry pudding mix, eggs, sour cream, oil and 1/2 cup each flavored instant coffee and water in large bowl with mixer on low speed just until moistened, stopping frequently to scrape bottom and side of bowl. Beat on medium speed 2 min. or until well blended. Chop 4 oz. chocolate; stir into batter. Pour into 2 greased and floured 9-inch round pans.
  • Bake 40 to 45 min. or until toothpick inserted in centers comes out clean. Cool in pans 10 min. Remove from pans to wire racks; cool completely.
  • Stir remaining 1/4 cup flavored instant coffee into COOL WHIP. Stack cake layers on plate, spreading COOL WHIP mixture between layers. Microwave butter, corn syrup and remaining chocolate and water in medium microwaveable bowl on HIGH 1-1/2 min.; stir until chocolate is completely melted. Spread over top of cake, allowing glaze to drip down side.

It smelled sooooo good while it was baking. I dont really know too much about coffee, so I didnt know there was a difference between the regular coffee grounds I used and the instant coffee I was suposed to use... If you dont know, there is a BIG difference. Anyway, I have to remake this cake this weekend because my boyfriend and I really want to try it... made the right way!

The center cream was amazing, as well as the glaze on the top!! I only cooked for 40 minutes and it seemed a "tad" dry. I bought a "1 cup of pudding in the mix" kind of cake mix - so it should have been really moist but nevertheless it was the best cake I've ever made and my husband agreed! And for the first time (in a long time) my cake actually looked like the one in the photo!!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from I made this cake for Fathers day. I made this cake for Fathers day. It said to put 1/4 cup of instant coffee in with the cool whip. I did that and it didn't turn out the way I expected it to. The grounds did not disolve, it tasted too strong, and it turned brown. Luckily I had extra cool whip, so I just put plain cool whip for the center. It turned out really nice. It was a little tough to cut though. The top layer kept sliding. I give it an A+ for taste.

I've made this a few times and though it tastes great it never looks very pretty...my cool whip always melts and runs down the sides, even when I keep it in the freezer...not sure how to fix this problem. <<< From Mary, Kraft Kitchens Expert ~ Make sure cake layers are completely cooled before filling with whipped topping mixture. A warm cake can cause the filling to soften or melt. >>>

My hushand doesn't like chocolate cake very well but said this was the best chocolate cake I've ever made. I didn't make the filling for center, because people said it slide and didn't stay together. So I doubled the topping and put it on each layer and then stacked it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This cake was delicious! This cake was delicious! However, the Cool Whip in the center squished out because of the weight of the top layer. Next time I will keep the layers separate and put a little of the chocolate and Cool Whip on top of each(this will make the slices more reasonable serving sizes too).

They even suggested doing it with a yellow cake mix as well. The only item I woulkd change would be more chocolate to be added to the top to have more drizzle and sauce on top.
